What can I do?

I used to love snow days. Listening to the radio DJ rattle off the list of school districts.  Waiting on pins and needles to hear my district called, followed by the magic words: “Closed” Spending the rest of the day whining to my mom, “What can I do now, Mom?  I’m bored.  What can I do?” I ask the same question now, but for different reasons. I look at the 153 million orphans in the world, and I have a hard time figuring out where to start.  I look at that number and think, “it’s overwhelming, scary, and expensive!”  I […]

Adoption Found Us

I am really horrible on camera, but Scott Amstutz did a great job of making me look slightly less idiotic than I really am… And you can meet Mark!   If you don’t see the video in your email or RSS reader, click here to view….     What’s your story? Leave a comment…

On Monday, we’ll talk about how.   Thanks to Michael Hyatt for sharing this on his blog.  Truly inspiring. (Yeah, there, I said it.  I’m out.  Don’t judge me.) For the record, I am not mean-spirited, and I don’t kill baby seals. But just like I couldn’t ignore the baby seals when I was 14, I can’t ignore the fact today that […]

Adopting Lena

I walked through the shadow of the mountain of snow. Yacinavata.  (Bless you) No, that was’t a sneeze.  But still, I’d take all the blessings I could get.  We were trapped in this small town in southeastern Ukraine, known only for being a transportation crossroads of sorts…and our only hope to get to Lena. *** Rewind a few days.  After fifteen months of homestudy and paperwork and waiting a lot, we finally left the ground.  Our appointment with the Ukrainian State Department of Adoption was a day before Lena’s 14th birthday, and we couldn’t wait to be there to celebrate […]
