Goodbye, my love

Last week, I broke up with Resistance. It was a very public breakup. It should have been on the cover of Us magazine. In an effort to gain sympathy and support, and probably to shame Resistance a little more than is really mature, I posted a break-up letter (in the comments) at The Write Practice. Resistance didn’t take the breakup like a man. He knows that throwing things wouldn’t really get him very far. Instead, he played on my sympathy. He called me asking very detailed questions about how to separate lights from darks when he does laundry.  Whether that new red shirt could […]

What happens after KONY 2012?

Who hasn’t seen the KONY 2012 video that’s circulating this week? Really?  May I schedule a writer’s retreat under your rock?  It sounds like a blissful place…but i digress…. As with any activist cause that gains visibility quickly, there have been critics. No one denys that Kony is a rotten guy who has done countless rotten things.  The controversy surrounds who can and should be taking action to improve the situation in Central Africa, and what actions(s) are needed. The strongest critics contend that Kony’s influence has waned dramatically in recent years, and the issues facing Central Africa demand a […]

Waiting

Waiting sucks. I’m impatient.  Mark is even more impatient.  Neither of us stand in line well.  He continues to shop.  I read random things on my phone.  We don’t like waiting. One of of top three questions when people begin to think about adoption is “How long will it take?”  Clearly, Mark and I are not the only ones who aren’t fond of long waits. Why the wait? When we decided to adopt, we assumed that an international adoption would be quick, especially for an older child.  Quicker than domestic.  Certainly quicker than waiting to be chosen by a birth […]

February Recap

Everyone always does Top 10 or Top 5…Well, I’m not everyone. The top 4 posts for the month: Love Song For A Conference – sharing my excitement at attending Jon Acuff’s second Quitter conference Vinyl Fever – Part of Michelle Woodman’s Blog Carnival, a fun remembrance (and lively conversation) of my first music purchase Adoption Found Us – A very awkward video of my eyes following a fly around the room while Mark and I share our adoption story What Can I Do? – The culmination of the seven-part “This is NOT ok” series about the Global Orphan Crisis. Thanks for […]

The death of religion

Today, I’m honored to be trading posts with Ryan A. Weaver on his blog. Check out my post about how I crashed and burned and tried to reinvent myself here. The post below is from Ryan.  Ryan is… a loser, a lover, a leader with 8 years of youth ministry experience.  It is his desire that people would see Jesus through his leadership.  Ryan blogs devotional thoughts as well as posts relating to adoption, porn & sexuality and other random things at www.ryanaweaver.com.  Follow him on Twitter @ryanaweaver.   This is not a rant about religion. This is just a reminder […]
